An annual event which takes place from Derwentwater Marina, Portinscale, Keswick, was this year held on Saturday 17th September. The event was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Bassenthwaite and Workington Derwent with twelve teams taking part in this year’s event. Each team had to race three times and points were awarded for a win, draw or lose. The team with the most points won.
The PFK team performed brilliantly winning their first two races against West House and Age Uk 1, which put them in the position of joint first place after two races. The third and final race was against Bendles Solicitors and, unfortunately, after a very strong start, the PFK team just couldn’t keep the pace and were pipped at the post.
The Cumbria Police, Barrow team were the overall winners, having won all three of their races. The PFK team came in a very credible third, not bad for a first attempt!!
The PFK team were sponsored a total of £500, this sum of money will be split between the organising rotary clubs and a charity of PFK’s choice.
Everyone involved had a really great day and it was made even better by the fact that the sun shone throughout.
The PFK team consisted of Stephen Lancaster, Stephen Mason, Judith Mitchell, Ron Gullon, Shirley Whitby, Sarah Mulheron, Joe Webb, Al Williams, Hannah Sims and Lee Hilland, with reserve team members Peter and Sue Baker stepping in to help with the final race.
